How does the Brodit ProClip functionate?

The Brodit ProClip generates a mounting platform in you vehicle. Onto the Proclip you can install a holder for your mobile device, handsfree carkit, navigation system etc.

What is the difference between the Brodit holders?

This are globally the available types for the Brodit holders.

Brodit - passive holder

The passive holder is the right choice if you want to have your PDA safely installed in your vehicle. It is easy to put the PDA in the holder, and to take it out of the holder. You can connect e.g. a charger cable to the PDA when it is in the holder.

The holder is designed with a tilt swivel, this means that you can adjust the PDA in order to avoid reflections on the display. The PDA holders have a perfect fit and holds the PDA firmly in place. Attach the holder onto a ProClip Mounting Platform in your vehicle and you will have your PDA in easy reach. Safe and convenient!

Brodit - active holder with cigarette lighter plug

The right choice for you if you use your PDA frequently. It charges your PDA battery while it is in the holder. The PDA connects to the charging device every time you put the PDA in the holder. 12/24 Volt.

The holder is designed with a tilt swivel, this means that you can adjust the PDA in order to avoid reflections on the display. The PDA holders have a perfect fit and holds the PDA firmly in place. Attach the holder onto a ProClip Mounting Platform in your vehicle and you will have your PDA in easy reach. Safe and convenient!

Brodit - active holder for fixed installation

The choice for who do not want cables hanging over the dashboard. A straight cable for fixed installation is attached to the backside of the holder, this allows for a neat installation. The cable has an open end, that can be connected over a fuse, behind the dashboard. (GPS-cable cannot be connected to the holder.) 12/24 Volt (5 Volt out).

Brodit - holder for cable attachment with built in connector

A holder with built in connector. The choice for you who often connect e.g. a GPS- or charging/data-cable to your PDA. Fits all cables that fit with the PDA, both original and aftermarket cables (Leadtek, Royaltek, Holux, Haicom etc). You attach the cable to the bottom of the holder the same way as you do to the PDA, but you don’t have to attach it manually every time you put the PDA in the holder.

Brodit - holder for cable plug attachment

A holder for cable attachment. You can attach e.g. a GPS-cable or a sync./data-cable to the holder. When you put the PDA in the holder, the cable connects to the PDA automatically, so you do not have to connect it manually every time (Cable is not included).

In order to find the correct holder for your PDA, compare the connector on your cable to the picture of the connector next to the holder.

In some cases the connectors look the same on cables for different PDA-models, but the cables are NOT the same. Only use the cables designed specificly for your PDA model. The cable is easy to attach to the holder.

The GPS-receiver has no connection with the PDA

After you checked all settings and you are sure everything is OK, and it still does not functionate, just check if the infrared beam is turned off. Start -> settings -> connections -> beam -> all incoming beams turn off.

Often the infrared is turned on when the device is leaving the factory.

The GPS signal is very poor through a metal coated window, what to do?
The GPS signal can be very poor with cars with a metal (to avoid sun light) coated windscreen, especially with Renault, Peugeot, Audi. You have to find the "blind-spot" than. Often it is located behind the interior (main) mirrow. In some countries they use this blind spot for taxes equipment.

One of our cars we are using ourselves is a Renault Espace 2001 with a metal coated windscreen. We have good experience to place to GPS-receiver at the side window of the window at the back. You can easily try it.

So there are 2 ways to solve this problem:
- find a better place in the car;
- use an external antenna. Available for almost all models BT GPS receiver.
